Lansdowne Resort to Host Earth Day Wine Dinner on April 22

Famed rancher Joel Salatin and award-winning winery owner Michael Honig partner for Celebration

LEESBURG, Va., (Jan. 29, 2025) – Legendary regenerative rancher Joel Salatin will partner with hosts Lansdowne Resort and Honig Winery for a wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22 in celebration of Earth Day. The event, part of the resort’s year-long Culinary Series titled “Eat Global, Source Local,” will focus on the value of organic farming.

Salatin will serve as the guest speaker and, as the author of 15 published books, be available for a book signing at the end of the evening. He describes himself as a “Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer,” while others like to refer to him as the most eclectic thinker from Virginia since Thomas Jefferson.

With his family, Salatin co-owns Polyface Farm in Swoope, Va., 150 miles southwest of Lansdowne Resort. The farm services more than 5,000 families, 50 restaurants, 10 retail outlets, and a farmers’ market with salad bar, beef, “pigaerator” pork, pastured poultry, and forestry products. Four generations of the Salatin family currently live and work on the farm.

Michael Honig, president of Honig Vineyard & Winery, will be on hand to present his acclaimed wines. Honig is a family-owned and operated winery based in Rutherford, Calif., committed to preserving and improving the environment using vineyard and winery practices known as “sustainable winegrowing.” These practices conserve water and energy, maintain healthy soil, protect air and water quality, preserve local ecosystems and wildlife habitat, and improve the economic vitality of vineyards and wineries.  Honig Winery’s sustainably farmed vineyard is perfectly suited to growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.

A curated menu, using Polyface Farm products, has been created by Chef Chris Ferrier of Lansdowne Resort.

The 2025 Culinary Series at Lansdowne Resort kicks off Thursday, Feb. 20 with “French Inspiration,” and continues Thursday, March 20 with “The Emerald Isle.”
