The Preserve Golf Club Poised to Host Back-to-Back Amateur Tournaments

CARMEL, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2024) – The Preserve Golf Club, a stunning golf course designed by Tom Fazio, is gearing up to host two prominent amateur golf events this month.

From October 16 to 19, the 32nd edition of the Stocker Cup will once again pay tribute to Peter Stocker, a real estate developer and one of the partners behind the creation of The Santa Lucia Preserve. The tournament, which has always drawn top talent, includes defending champion Colby Harwell from San Antonio, who will return to seek a second title. The 54-hole individual competition features a simultaneous best-ball event, similar to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The 56 invited mid-amateur players are either paired with a single-digit amateur or can propose their own partner to be introduced and invited by the Stocker Cup Committee.

On October 28-29, this challenging 7,100-yard course will host The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate hosted by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, formerly known as the Cal Poly Invitational. This event features 12 top West Coast collegiate golf teams, including host Cal Poly, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, University of California, and San Diego State. Additional information can be found online at www.thepreservegolfclubcollegiate.com/.

The format calls for five-man teams with the best four scores counting toward the daily total. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 28, and another 18 holes the following day.

“We are delighted to host both of these prestigious tournaments at The Preserve Golf Club,” said Riley Ramones, head golf professional. “With our course in great condition, we eagerly await the arrival of these exceptional amateur and collegiate competitors.”

The Preserve Golf Club is located within The Santa Lucia Preserve, a private community of fewer than 300 homesites situated on 20,000 acres. Located on the southern ridge of Carmel Valley, the course reflects the contours of the natural terrain that surrounds it:  the Santa Lucia Mountains, mature oaks, grassy meadows, and flowing streams. In typical Fazio fashion, there are plenty of strategically placed deep bunkers, fast greens, and challenging approach shots.

Minutes from Carmel-by-the-Sea, it provides its residents and members with a range of recreational opportunities second to none, while offering a unique ethos of community, culture, and conservation.
